Live data, refreshed weekly from certifier rosters11,375 places

Every halal badge shows the claim, the evidence and the date.

Certified zabiha, from the certifier

A named certifier lists the outlet on their public roster. We read those rosters every week (HMS in the US, HMA in Canada, HMC in the UK) and link straight to the listing.

Claims shown as claims

Owner and community claims are labeled for what they are: hand slaughtered claimed, halal claimed, or partially halal. Alcohol is shown when we know.

Checked, in the open

Every place shows where its status comes from and when that was last checked. Closed or changed? Report it; three closed or not-halal reports hide a place until we check it.

Masjids and events, same map

Prayer spaces near you, plus iftars, lectures, bazaars and MSA nights posted by the people running them.

Run an MSA, a masjid, or a convention?

Post your events once and they show on the map for everyone nearby. We are looking for chapter and convention partners for this school year and Ramadan 1448.

Questions

Where does the data come from?

Certifier rosters (HMS, HMA, HMC), which we read every week and link to. OpenStreetMap, for places tagged halal and for masjids, under the ODbL. Places researched by Muzzmi from each business's own website. And you: submissions and reports from signed-in users, which we check before they go on the map. We never copy other directories.

What does "certified zabiha" mean here?

That a certifier with a public roster currently lists that exact outlet. Tap the certifier name on any place to see their listing. If a certifier drops an outlet, the badge drops on our next weekly check.

A place is wrong or closed.

Open it and tap Report a problem. Three closed or not-halal reports in a month hide a place until we review it. Wrong details are fixed by hand.

Is there an app?

Yes. Muzzmi is on the App Store for iPhone. The web app works on any phone.

Does it cost anything?

No. Muzzmi is free for people looking for food, masjids and events, and listing a service in the marketplace is free too. Businesses on the map can claim their listing to run it themselves; that plan is what pays for Muzzmi.

How does the scanner decide?

It reads the ingredient list Open Food Facts holds for the barcode and flags anything haram (pork, alcohol, blood) or source-dependent (gelatin, E471, rennet, carmine and so on). A halal label recorded on the pack is shown as such. It is a screening tool, not a certification.

Where do prayer times come from?

Calculated on your device with the standard astronomical methods (ISNA by default in North America, switchable). Your masjid may differ by a few minutes; follow it for jama'ah.

Is there dating in this app?

No, and there will not be.
