Are Pringles halal?

Original Pringles contain no meat ingredients, and the UK version is labelled suitable for vegans. Flavoured Pringles add dairy, flavourings and emulsifiers, so they need a closer look. We found no halal statement from the brand for US, UK or Canadian Pringles.

UK Pringles

UK Pringles Original list dehydrated potatoes, vegetable oils, wheat, corn and rice flour, maltodextrin, emulsifier E471, salt and annatto. The pack is labelled suitable for vegans, which means the E471 is plant-based in this product.

Some UK supermarket listings tag flavours such as Sour Cream and Onion as halal, but we found no certificate or statement from the brand, so look for a halal logo on the pack itself.

US and Canada

Kellogg's SmartLabel for US Pringles Sour Cream and Onion lists mono- and diglycerides, whey, sour cream, buttermilk, natural flavors and other dairy. The label does not say whether the mono- and diglycerides come from plants or animals. More in Is E471 halal?.

Pringles' US FAQ says most products are not labelled vegetarian or vegan and that ingredients vary by flavour. We found no halal statement from the brand in the US or Canada.

How to decide

For uncertified flavours, most of the decision rests on the emulsifiers, dairy enzymes and flavourings. To check a can quickly, use Muzzmi's free label scanner.
